Angus Mitchell joined DFDL as a partner on 1st February 2013. Mitchell has taken up the position of managing director for the firm’s three offices in Thailand, managing a team of almost 30 expatriate and Thai lawyers based in the Bangkok, Samui and their Phuket offices. He will also serve as the head of the oil and gas practice of the regional energy, mining and infrastructure practice group. He started his career in 1994 as an associate with Russin and Vecchi in Myanmar and in 1997 he joined the projects group at Linklaters in Singapore. In 2002 Mitchell joined Bennett Jones, a leading North American energy law firm, in Calgary, becoming a partner in 2005 in their energy and natural resources group and focusing on oil and gas projects. Mitchell’s particular expertise is in the areas of oil and gas, and power related legal work, both in project development and related share and asset transactions.

Anisha Patnaik has joined the Bombay office of K Law as the firm’s first lateral hire at partnership level. Patnaik was a director at the First Light Accelerator (a First Light Ventures and Shell Foundation Collaboration) where she worked on investments in early stage companies engaged in providing modern energy access to those in need. Prior to that, she was the India legal counsel for Acumen Fund, a non-profit global venture fund, and associate partner at Thakker & Thakker. Patnaik’s areas of practice include private equity/venture capital investments, acquisitions and joint ventures and general corporate commercial advisory.

K&L Gates LLP has appointed corporate partner Charles L Strauss, who arrives from the Houston office of Fulbright & Jaworski where he was a partner since 1991 and served as head of the firm’s securities practice group. During his 30 years with Fulbright & Jaworski, Strauss advised clients across a wide range of industry sectors on various corporate and securities matters, including clients based in the oil and gas, aerospace, trucking, and financial service industries.

Majmudar & Partners has appointed Fraser M Alexander as an associate partner to be based in the firm’s Bombay office. Fraser is a senior disputes lawyer, with more than 20 years of experience. He enrolled as an advocate in March 1992 and practised before the courts at Kollam (Quilon) and the Kerala High Court in Ernakulam until May 1996. He then moved to Chennai (Madras) and was associated with Kurian & Associates, Advocates, where he handled various litigation matters in the banking and insurance sectors. Thereafter, Fraser handled various commercial disputes on behalf of NEPC India Ltd and its group companies, a leading industrial group in South India.

Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton has added Tony K Mou to its corporate practice group and he will be based in the firm’s Shanghai office. Mou joins from Morgan Lewis in Beijing. Mou advises multinational companies operating in China on a broad range of general corporate and transactional matters. He focusses on representing private equity/venture capital clients, entrepreneurs, venture-backed companies and acts on inbound and outbound mergers and acquisitions. He also provides advice on foreign direct investment, foreign-exchange control, employment and international tax.
