Brian Gilchrist joins the Hong Kong office of Clifford Chance. Gilchrist has extensive experience in tax-related disputes and has built a leading practice in general and civil litigation, with particular skills in banking, insurance, tax, contentious probate, directors’ duties and minority shareholders’ rights. He has also acted as a key legal adviser to many of the largest Hong Kong and international companies and institutions. A graduate of the University of Cambridge, Gilchrist began his legal career in 1989 with Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, before moving to Hong Kong and Johnson Stokes and Master in 1995.

Richard Dammery has joined Minter Ellison as a partner and part of the M&A team. He was previously executive General Counsel and Company Secretary of Coles Group. Based in Melbourne, Dammery joined Coles in 2005 and led the project teams on two landmark transactions – the sale of Myer and the takeover (by scheme) of Coles by Wesfarmers. Before joining Coles he held senior legal and commercial roles in industry, at Telstra, Telecom Corporation of New Zealand and AAPT, as well as working at another large Australian law firm.

Nick Seddon is set to join the Hong Kong office of Heller Ehrman as Regional Managing Partner. Previously, Seddon was DLA Piper’s Managing Director for Asia, a role he assumed in 2004. Under his leadership, DLA Piper’s practice in the region expanded 300 percent and grew from four to six offices. Seddon qualified as a solicitor in the U.K. at Needham & James, where he became a partner at age 27 and later head of the Corporate Group. His corporate practice focused on entrepreneurial growth businesses, including technology companies. He also represented many of the U.K.’s top private equity firms on deals ranging from development capital investments in wholesalers to buyouts of cutting-edge software developers.
