Azmi & Associates has appointed Haslyna Hashim and Norazalina Sham Abdullah as partners. Hashim joined the firm in December 2010. Her specialization is in technology and communications law. A registered patent and trademark agent, she had worked at Zaid Ibrahim & Co’s technology practice group, the biggest technology law practice in Malaysia at the time and then joined Azmi & Associates where she eventually headed the multimedia, technology & IP practice group. Hashim was also appointed the head of the legal department for JARING Communications Sdn Bhd, the country’s first internet service provider, where she was exposed to various areas of ICT, high technology and communications industry. Abdullah joined the firm in February. She chambered in Shearn Delamore & Co in 1997, acquired her Masters in Law at National University of Malaysia in ICT and commenced work in the law firm of Hisham Sobri and Kadir. She later joined Azmi & Associates before moving to iPerintis Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary and the ICT arm for Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS), where she eventually headed the legal and corporate compliance department. Her specialty is in structuring, drafting and negotiating contracts, including with international-based vendors, and she has vast experience in contentious contract matters, implementation of policies, bidding exercises, compliance issues, contract strategies and regulations relating to the ICT industry and businesses.
K&L Gates has appointed Sergey J Milanov as a corporate partner in the firm’s Tokyo office. Milanov joins from Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe and is fluent in English, Russian, and Japanese. He has a broad corporate and finance practice that focuses on Japanese clients investing and doing business in Russia, encompassing M&A, joint ventures, and project and trade finance transactions, in addition to advising on foreign currency, banking, and other regulatory issues of Russian law. Milanov has also been involved in numerous large production-sharing agreements for the development of Russian oil and gas deposits and has advised on green-field projects for the establishment of various Japanese subsidiaries in the Russian Federation. |
