K&L Gates has added Jason Opperman as a partner in the finance practice. He joins from Henry Davis York, where he led the banking, restructuring and insolvency practice. Opperman is a leading practitioner in the insolvency, securities enforcement, fraud and debt recovery areas. He has more than 17 years of experience acting for banks and financial institutions. He has acted for Australia’s largest banks, financial services institutions and corporations in the areas of security enforcement and debt recovery, including receiverships, enforcement of real property mortgages, guarantees and other securities, workouts, enforcement of rural securities and farm debt mediation, banker and customer disputes, cheque disputes and fraud. Opperman has also acted in a number of high-profile corporate administrations across a range of industries, such as property development, retail, manufacturing, information technology and communications, automotive, aviation and rural.



Mayer Brown JSM has added Pieter de Ridder as a partner in its Tax Transactions & Consulting practice in Singapore. He has over 20 years of experience in Asia advising multinational companies and institutions with interests in one or more Asian jurisdictions on their inbound and outbound work. Prior to arriving Singapore in 1996, he was based in Jakarta and Hong Kong. He focuses on advising tax matters, such as direct investment, restructurings, financing arrangements, private equity and holding company structures into or from countries, such as China, Hong Kong, India and the countries in Southeast Asia, especially Indonesia. De Ridder is an SIATP-accredited Singapore tax adviser. He joins from Loyens & Loeff’s where he was a partner and head of its Singapore office. He has also worked at one of the big four accounting firms in the Netherlands, Indonesia and Hong Kong. He received his LLM in tax law from the University of Leiden, the Netherlands. He is fluent in Dutch and English and fair in French and German.


Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy has added corporate and capital markets adviser David Kuo as a partner in its Hong Kong office. He joins from the Hong Kong office of Allen & Overy, where he was a partner. Kuo represents Chinese companies and other high-yield issuers and underwriters on a wide variety of debt- and equity-linked capital markets transactions, including high-yield, investment-grade, RMB, convertibles and corporate hybrids. He also counsels on liability management exercises, including debt restructuring, tender offers and exchange offers. Kuo also regularly advises on a wide range of cross-border M&As, business combinations and private equity transactions. Fluent in Mandarin, Kuo is a registered solicitor in Hong Kong and admitted to the California State Bar. He earned his JD from Columbia Law School and undergraduate degree in Political Science and International Relations from UCLA.



Zul Rafique & Partners has added David Lee Lai Huat as a partner in the corporate finance group. He holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) degree from the University of London and was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1995. Huat also completed his Masters of Laws from the University of Malaya. He advises in several areas, including corporate real estate and corporate banking, but his forte is in corporate and securities law, primarily on corporate finance, M&As and takeovers and mergers. Huat also advises on joint ventures and foreign direct investments, which invariably involve advice on local licensing conditions and requirements.
