| Ogier has become the first offshore law firm with a formal presence in Mainland China after opening an office in Shanghai. Ogier Shanghai will be headed up by Kristy Calvert, previously legal director at international mining group Rio Tinto. Calvert is a native Mandarin and Shanghainese speaker, according to a company press release. Group chief executive officer Nick Kershaw said: “In pursuit of our strategy we felt it critically important to establish a strong presence in mainland China…with lawyers qualified to offer advice on the key jurisdictions of BVI, Cayman, Guernsey and Jersey.” The new office will focus on capital markets, banking and finance, investment funds, trusts and private wealth and general corporate transactional advice. The company said its mainland Chinese clients would benefit from the services of its Hong Kong office, where the headcount is forecast to double over the next three years. |
