| Australia’s Allens Arthur Robinson and Japan’s Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu have entered into a Co-operative Alliance which is intended to satisfy the needs of Japanese clients in Australia and more broadly across Asia. Under the cooperative framework, which the firms say responds to the growing internationalisation of legal services in the region, both firms will retain their structural and financial independence but have agreed to second lawyers to each other’s offices and join forces in respect of marketing and training initiatives in the region. “The Co-operative Alliance recognises that, notwithstanding the growth of China, Japan remains a critically important player in the region,” said Tim Lester, the lead partner of Allens’ Japan Practice, “and clients from Japan continue to require premium level support and assistance and will benefit from this new approach to responding to their needs.” The firm’s chief executive partner, Michael Rose, added, “There is significant Japanese in-bound investment into Australia, Indonesia, Vietnam and other South-East Asia countries (not to mention into North Asia). Given Allens’ extensive presence and experience in the region and NO&T’s superb client base in Japan, we see significant advantages in working together to offer more to Japanese clients.” |
