Max Rockall

Squire Patton Boggs’ International Dispute Resolution partner Max Rockall has relocated from London to the firm’s Singapore office to lead the firm’s Asia Pacific Energy Disputes and LNG practice, strengthening its capabilities and with plans to grow the team in the region.

A member of the firm’s Global Board, Max previously co-led the London arbitration team. He is an energy, gas and LNG specialist, strategist and arbitration hearing advocate, with over 15 years of experience advising on an extensive book of cases.

They include natural gas and LNG price renegotiations, price review arbitrations and expert determinations, missed LNG cargo delivery disputes, cargo delays and shortfalls, force majeure claims, hardship issues, disputed LNG flexibility rights and valuations, and issues of wilful misconduct and market arbitrage.

Having advised on over 20 price review matters, Max is a specialist in developing price review renegotiation strategies to assist gas and LNG companies in preparing for, and participating in, price review negotiations and any subsequent arbitrations.

“Having developed my Asia practice over several years, this is a natural next step for me. I am looking forward to growing our LNG practice and wider disputes capabilities in Singapore, and building on our reputation in the region as one of the leading firms for LNG and energy matters,” Max said.

Stephen Anway, global co-chair of the International Dispute Resolution Practice Group, commented: “Max is a talented colleague, widely recognised as a leading lawyer in the energy and LNG space. With his specialist focus on Asia markets, his relocation represents a key investment in the growth of our practice and strategic expansion of our Asia Pacific offering.”

Barry Stimpson, managing partner of the Singapore office, added: “We are very pleased to welcome Max to our team in Singapore.  With price volatility and long-term contract disputes leading to an uptick in energy arbitration, Max’s specialist expertise will be highly sought after by our clients.”
