Ong Johnson is a qualified legal professional and a nationally recognised authority in data protection, technology law, and fintech regulation. As Head of the Technology Practice Group at Halim Hong & Quek, he leads a cutting-edge team advising leading technology companies, digital banks, blockchain ventures, and telecommunications providers on some of the most complex and transformative legal issues in Malaysia. Ong Johnson currently serves as the appointed Data Protection Officer for over 20 companies across various regulated sectors and sits on the drafting working committee with the Personal Data Protection Commissioner, where he plays an active role in shaping Malaysia’s future privacy and data governance framework.

Lo Khai Yi is the Co-Head of the Technology Practice Group at Halim Hong & Quek, with a strong focus on telecommunications, regulatory compliance, and digital infrastructure. He advises major telcos, enterprise tech companies, and digital service providers on licensing, spectrum regulation, and data protection. His experience spans both regulatory advisory and commercial transactions across the telecoms and technology sectors. Khai Yi currently serves as the appointed Data Protection Officer for over 20 companies and sits on the drafting working committee with the Personal Data Protection Commissioner, where he contributes actively to the development of Malaysia’s evolving privacy and data governance framework.

Viet has nearly ten years of experience in corporate and commercial law, with a strong focus on data privacy and cybersecurity.  He also advises on hospitality management and real estate development.  Viet advises clients on a wide range of data handling matters, including data audits, due diligence, governance frameworks, and regulatory compliance. He regularly supports multinational companies on cross-border data transfers and coordinates compliance efforts with their Vietnamese entities to ensure alignment with local regulations.

With 15 years’ experience in Vietnam, Philip primarily advises on corporate and transactional matters, and on financing arrangements.  His experience also includes acting as legal advisor to startup companies, and extends to the fintech, blockchain, and e-commerce industries.  Philip routinely advises tech companies entering and operating in the market.  He advises manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies, and many entities involved in cross-border transactions, on inbound investments that center on corporate finance, real estate, manufacturing, energy, intellectual property, and mergers and acquisitions.
