Welcome to the latest edition of the IHC magazine for the In-House Community.
As promised, in this edition we announce the winners of the In-House Community’s Counsel of the Year Awards, 2021. We share some highlights from the online awards ceremony (which saw a global span of participation, from Australia to Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia and Canada), and recognise the standout efforts of in-house and external legal teams and counsel in 2021.
Our regular column updates for the issue include:
JURISDICTION UPDATES
We hear about the new Financial Products and Services Consumer Protection Act in Philippines, which promises a faster way for financial consumers that have fallen victim to financial fraud to recover their money (ACCRALAW).
Across the ocean, we delve into a recent judgment handed down by the English High Court which serves to cast further light on what documents may be subject to disclosure for the sake of being “mentioned” in a witness statement (Carey Olsen).
SPECIAL FEATURES
Penny Koo of AIA, IHC’s winning Counsel of the Year, 2021, graciously shares the philosophies which have seen her succeed as a general counsel and become AIA’s youngest EXCO member. She enjoins us to stay both curious and humble, and to remember that there is something to learn from everyone.
We also speak with Sesto Vecchi of Russin & Vecchi, who shares some learned insight into the evolving landscape of Vietnam. From landing in the country in 1964 as a Lieutenant in the US Navy to being a partner of a firm considered to be one of the top in Vietnam, Sesto is well placed to guide us on what to expect from the jurisdiction.
We also cover last month’s top deals, partner level moves, and latest legal industry news.
We hope you enjoy the issue.
