| The Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC) has appointed Chiann Bao to the position of Secretary-General. Bao, who succeeds Secretary-General Gary Soo (who intends to return to the Bar), commenced the role on 1 May 2010 with substantial experience in the international arbitration arena behind her. She has clerked at the ICC International Court of Arbitration in Paris and worked with several major international law firms, most recently DLA Piper LLP in New York where she was a member of that firm’s international arbitration group.
A graduate of Cornell University, Bao was also Fulbright Scholar in China and obtained a Juris Doctor from the University of Wisconsin Law School and a Master of Arts in Arbitration and Dispute Resolution from the City University of Hong Kong. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and is admitted to the New York Bar. “We are absolutely delighted to have found a candidate of Chiann’s caliber to take over the post of Secretary-General,” said the Chairman of the HKIAC, Michael J. Moser. “Her practical experience in international arbitration and case management will be a tremendous benefit to the HKIAC and our users.” |
