 Skadden has hired Chiann Bao, secretary-general of the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), as Asia-Pacific counsel in its litigation and international arbitration group.Bao is a well-known figure in the region’s international arbitration community, having managed the operation and administration of HKIAC since 2010. During her tenure she oversaw the drafting of the 2013 HKIAC Administered Arbitration Rules and the introduction of the arbitration evaluation system, among other things. She will remain in Hong Kong in her new role and will focus on international arbitration for Skadden clients from around the world, working closely with partner Rory McAlpine, who heads the firm’s disputes practice in Asia. This is not her first appointment in private practice. Before moving to Hong Kong to head HKIAC she worked as an associate at DLA Piper in New York while studying for her JD. Although a US citizen, Bao got her introduction to international arbitration in Hong Kong after winning a place at City University’s arbitration and dispute resolution programme through a Fulbright Scholarship. Today, she is helping to educate the city’s next generation of arbitrators as an adjunct associate professor at Hong Kong University. |
