Appleby has added Fiona Chan as a partner in the Hong Kong office to further bolster the offshore firm’s Asia banking and finance practice. With extensive experience advising on various offshore jurisdictions, Chan joins the firm after working approximately five years offshore in Hong Kong. She has also spent 10 years onshore with the London and Hong Kong offices of Clifford Chance. Her experience spans the spectrum of banking and finance transactions, including bilateral and syndicated lending, project and acquisition finance, asset-backed and property financing, energy and infrastructure financing, pre-IPO debt and equity finance, corporate restructuring / pre-insolvency and various forms of credits and securities.



Bird & Bird has added Alexander Shepherd as partner of the global Tech & Comms group. He will be based in Singapore to enhance the firm’s transactional capabilities in the TMT sector in South East Asia/the ASEAN region. Shepherd joins from Simmons & Simmons Singapore, where he was a partner in the ICT practice group, and head of the technology, media and telecom sector group in Asia. He relocated to Singapore in 2013 to help establish Simmons & Simmons’ office. Prior to this, he was based in Dubai for almost seven years and advised on matters across the Middle East and Africa. Shepherd is an England and Wales qualified lawyer specialised in the legal, commercial and regulatory aspects of telecom, IT, technology and e-commerce matters. His key area of practice is advising on technology procurement and regulated outsourcings for financial institutions, investment funds and insurance companies.


Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas has added Shagoofa Rashid Khan as partner in its Mumbai office. Joining as national head of funds, investment and advisory, she has 17 years of experience across structuring funds, managed accounts, fund documentation, acquisitions / exits / restructuring / joint ventures and strategic initiatives, international taxation and planning, corporate and commercial laws, business advisory, compliance and ethics advisory, audit and finance. Khan has extensively worked as an in-house counsel of leading players in the Indian financial services industry, such as Kotak Bank subsidiary Kotak Investment Advisors Ltd, Tata Sons and IDFC Alternatives Ltd, alternate assets manager of IDFC group. She was also head of real estate funds and international tax policy practice teams at Nishith Desai Associates.



Eversheds has added Rachael Shek as a partner in its disputes practice. Joining from Herbert Smith Freehills in Hong Kong, Shek is a highly regarded dispute resolution specialist who has advised Chinese state-owned companies, multinational corporates, global investment banks and other financial services providers, manufacturers and high net worth individuals.


Hogan Lovells Lee & Lee has added Kent Phillips as a litigation and arbitration partner in Singapore, bringing a wealth of experience in arbitration, the energy sector and Southeast Asia. He will join from Berwin Leighton Paisner where he is the head of arbitration. He originally qualified in New Zealand before moving to London in 1998. Phillips has previously handled one of the most significant and high profile cases before the English courts in acting on the Berezovsky litigation. He is experienced as counsel and as arbitrator, particularly in the energy sector (including projects and construction) and also in financial services.

HSA Advocates has added Aninda Pal as a partner in the Mumbai office. Prior to joining the firm, Pal was a partner at Juris Corp, before which he worked as a counsel in Trilegal, where he was a senior member of the corporate practice. With over a decade of experience, he specialises in M&As (in-bound and out-bound), private equity, venture capital, joint ventures, corporate restructurings, regulatory advisory and general corporate.



Sidley Austin has strengthened its global project finance and infrastructure practice with the addition of David Gartside, an experienced Asia-based project finance and development lawyer, as a partner in Singapore. Gartside advises project sponsors / developers, utilities, contractors, commercial lenders, infrastructure funds, export credit agencies, multilateral agencies and development banks on major international projects and project financings. He has also counseled clients on acquisitions, restructuring, and asset and trade financings.
