Clayton Utz has appointed John King as partner effective 15 November 2011. King was previously senior legal counsel with Eni Australia and VICO, an Eni-BP joint venture and a leading supplier of Indonesian LNG. He has over 15 years experience advising major participants in the petroleum and petrochemical sectors on a wide range of energy related matters. King has extensive experience in Australia, the United Kingdom, Indonesia and North-Asia.

Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson has appointed Douglas Freeman and Victor Chen as partners. Freeman will be resident in both the firm’s Hong Kong and New York offices and Chen will be resident in its Hong Kong office. Freeman and Chen have a long track record of representing private equity sponsors, multinational corporations and global investment banking firms in Greater China and other Asian markets in sophisticated public and private cross-border transactions across a wide range of industries. Freeman was most recently a partner in the Hong Kong and New York offices of O’Melveny & Myers. He is admitted to the bar in New York. Chen also joins from O’Melveny & Myers where he served as counsel in its Hong Kong and Los Angeles offices. He is admitted to the bar in Hong Kong and California.

K&L Gates’ Dubai office has welcomed the addition of Paul Simpson as a partner in the firm’s finance practice. Simpson most recently served as regional managing partner of the UAE practice at Simmons & Simmons, where he oversaw the firm’s operations across its Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Doha offices. An experienced corporate, projects, and finance lawyer, Simpson counsels clients in a variety of energy, transportation, investment, finance, merger and acquisition, and project development matters.

KhattarWong has appointed Perry Yuen as equity partner and head of corporate and securities laws department with effect from 29 August 2011. Yuen has broad expertise in corporate finance, corporate restructurings and rescues, general corporate and commercial, asset/fund and wealth management, and advising on securities regulations. Recently, he has acted for SunMoon Food Company Ltd in respect of its various corporate exercises and advised Orix Investment and Management Pte Ltd in a US$600 million revolving credit syndicated facility agreement. Prior to joining the firm, he managed the corporate finance practice at a boutique law firm.
