Donald J Hess has joined Jones Day as partner of the firm’s M&A practice in its Hong Kong office. Hess has over 20 years of experience in M&As, including 14 years in Hong Kong. This included roles as director of legal affairs at Cable & Wireless HKT Ltd and general legal counsel at Pacific Century CyberWorks Ltd. In addition to his extensive experience in Asia, he has worked in Australia, Europe and the US as a representative of the Australian Trade Commission. Before joining the firm, Hess was a partner in the Hong Kong office of Allens Arthur Robinson.

DLA Piper has appointed Kit Kwok as a partner in its corporate practice. Kwok will be based in Shanghai, but spend significant time working in the firm’s Beijing and Hong Kong offices. His areas of expertise include advising multinationals on legal and regulatory issues related to their investment and commercial activities in China, including M&As, joint ventures and general company representation matters. Kwok joins the firm from Roosevelt Sino Retailers where he was chief operating officer and legal counsel overseeing all legal and operation matters for the company.

Anthony Woo has joined Kennedys maritime and international trade team as a partner specialising in shipping dispute resolution in the firm’s Hong Kong office. He brings with him over 13 years of experience advising the maritime industry. Woo was previously with Richards Butler and DLA Piper Hong Kong where he focused on handling disputes and providing advisory to the marine industry.
