Khaitan & Co has appointed Devidas Banerji as a partner in its Mumbai office. Banerji, who is enrolled in the Bar Council of West Bengal and qualified as a solicitor of England and Wales, started his legal career as a trainee in London with Clifford Chance LLP, qualifying as an associate in the asset finance group in 2004. He later moved to the firm’s Singapore office in 2007, where he specialised in a variety of banking transactions and worked on several major acquisitions and leveraged financings in the region. He has regularly represented leading financial institutions, corporations and sponsors in negotiating and documenting complex financings, and advised on syndicated lending transactions, inter-creditor and subordination issues, guarantees, security, insolvency and other aspects of international financing transactions.

Sidley Austin LLP has welcomed the return of corporate and capital markets partner Prabhat K Mehta to the firm’s Singapore office, after six years in the firm’s New York office. Earlier in his career, Mehta spent five years in East Asia where he led transactions throughout the region. He has extensive experience in a range of securities transactions, including IPOs and offerings of high-yield debt, convertible and exchangeable debt, hybrid securities and structured products. Mehta has led deal teams on capital markets, private equity, joint venture, fund formation and other transactions in Asia. Recently, he has worked with sovereign wealth funds and major financial institutions on several landmark recapitalisation transactions. Since the beginning of his career, Mehta has devoted a significant part of his practice to India-related matters; he has worked on over 20 securities offerings for Indian companies.
