Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker has appointed Jacqueline Lim as partner in the Hong Kong office. Lim is a corporate partner, whose practice focuses on corporate finance, including mergers & acquisitions and equity capital markets.

Salans has appointed two new partners, Dr Bernd-Uwe Stucken and Dai Jun, in the Shanghai office. Both join the firm from Haarmann Hemmelrath. Stucken has extensive experience advising on foreign direct investment, mergers and acquisitions and joint venture projects including tax structuring. He has lived in China for over 17 years. Dai Jun specialises in mergers and acquisitions and corporate and commercial law. Their appointment brings the total number of partners at Salans Shanghai to four.

Soewito Suhardiman Eddymurthy Kardono has appointed Meiny Meirany Rasmin, Johannes C Sahetapy-Engel and Mohamad Kadri as partners. All three are widely respected for their in-depth knowledge of particular legal fields and their extensive transactional experience. Meirany Rasmin specialises in the insurance and capital markets sectors and she has participated in numerous mergers and acquisitions of private and public companies in Indonesia. Sahetapy-Engel specialises in mergers and acquisitions, corporate and debt restructurings, oil and gas, and labour matters. He has participated in numerous transactions both in and outside Indonesia and is one of the leading attorneys in the firm’s oil and gas practice. Kadri specialises in banking and finance, mergers and acquisitions, capital markets and securities. He handled most major restructurings of publicly-listed banks in Indonesia after the 1998 monetary crisis.

White & Case has appointed Stephen R Payne as partner in the Beijing office. Payne will advise clients on cross-border financings and investments, focusing on the development, privatisation and financing of energy and infrastructure projects in emerging markets through competitive solicitations and negotiated transactions. The firm has also appointed John C Leary as partner in Shanghai. Cleary has worked in White & Case offices in Los Angeles, Bangkok, Hanoi, Prague, Mexico City and Palo Alto. In Shanghai, he specialises in cross-border M&A, private equity investments, joint ventures and venture financings. In addition Gerald M Fujii has joined White & Case’s Tokyo office as partner. He has experience in cross-border transactional matters, primarily in the real estate, finance and general corporate areas.
