| DFDL Mekong has appointed Jean Loi as a regional tax partner. She joins from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) where she was a partner heading PwC’s tax practice in Cambodia, later including Vietnam. She is an all round tax adviser with particular experience in infrastructure, energy, logistics, FMCG distribution and banking. Loi has 17 years of tax advisory experience, nine of which have been in the Indochina region. She assisted with the tax structuring of major power plants, market entries and acquisitions and led numerous tax controversy projects in the region.
Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has appointed senior corporate partner Robert Ashworth as Asia regional managing partner, effective 1 February 2011. Bringing over 16 years of experience in China to the role, he has led the firm’s corporate practice in Asia since 2000. Ashworth has been based in Hong Kong since 1994 and became a member of the firm’s partnership council in 2008. He specialises in corporate law, particularly cross border M&A and private equity. Khaitan & Co has appointed Anand Mehta as a partner in its Mumbai office. Before joining the firm, he was a partner in a reputed Indian law firm for over ten years. Mehta has over 22 years experience and he specialises in M&As, India entry strategies, corporate and commercial law, anti-trust, contract and securities laws. He has assisted Fortune 500 companies to establish and expand their Indian operations. He is enrolled with the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa. Tilleke & Gibbins has appointed Dr Jakkrit Kuanpoth as Of Counsel in the firm’s IP group, effective January 4. Dr Kuanpoth’s advice has been sought by organisations such as the World Intellectual Property Organization, the World Health Organization, the Ford Foundation, and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). He has also sat on various committees of the Thai government. Dr Kuanpoth is both a legal practitioner and an academic, with teaching responsibilities in IP law and other legal areas at the University of Wollongong in Australia. He has penned authoritative texts on IP and patent rights and related subjects. |
