Clayton Utz has appointed Ben Sandstad as a partner in its structured capital markets practice. Sandstad joins the Australian firm from Linklaters, where he worked in Hong Kong and Toyko on many high-profile transactions across a range of Asian markets. He will be based in the firm’s Sydney office where he will focus on securitisation, structured finance and derivatives offering clients his experience in a range of jurisdictions involving diverse asset classes.

Michael M Hickman has joined Dechert LLP as a corporate and securities partner. Formerly at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP, Hickman has more than 20 years of experience in China. Hickman represents major multinationals and financial institutions on a wide range of China-related transactions. He also counsels on cross-border compliance and regulatory matters.

Dechert LLP has welcomed Liang Tsui as a corporate and securities partner. Based in China for more than 12 years, Tsui advises private equity firms, investment banks, and major multinationals on public and private M&As, private equity, and foreign direct investment transactions. He joins the firm from Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson LLP.

David C Chu, formerly of Heller Ehrman LLP, has joined Dechert LLP as a partner in the white collar and securities litigation group. Chu has significant experience with internal and government investigations, including in the Foreign Corrupt Practices area. He also has handled a number of leading cases in Hong Kong involving director misfeasance and fraud and has advised auditors from leading accounting firms and Asia-based issuers on compliance issues under Hong Kong law arising from SEC enforcement actions and related investigations.

Martin David has joined DLA Piper’s Singapore partnership. He will head the finance and projects group in the region and take over the role of Singapore office managing partner, overseeing an established office which currently comprises nine partners. David joins from Linklaters in Singapore, where he was a finance and projects partner for the last ten years.

Kirkland & Ellis International LLP has welcomed Xiaoyang (XY) Li (李晓阳) to the firm as a partner. Li regularly represents blue-chip international and domestic private equity funds and companies focused principally on mergers and acquisitions and other complex corporate matters in China. He joins Kirkland from Jun He Law Offices in Beijing where he was a senior partner.

Yang Ing Loong has joined Sidley Austin LLP in Singapore as a partner. Yang will focus on arbitration and litigation in Asia, particularly on disputes concerning the PRC. He is a qualified arbitrator and accredited mediator with extensive experience acting for corporate and individual clients in complex commercial and corporate litigation, international arbitration, shareholders’ disputes, joint venture and technology licensing disputes, and commercial crime cases.
