| Mayer Brown JSM has enhanced its China employment offering with the appointment of Susan Deng as head of the firm’s employment and benefits practice in China. Deng, who joins the firm from Standard Chartered Bank (China) Limited, will work in the firm’s Hong Kong office for 10 months before relocating to Shanghai where she will focus on employment issues in Mainland China. A senior legal counsel specialising in employment matters at Standard Chartered Bank, she previously worked for Jun He Law Offices and TransAsia Lawyers in Shanghai. Her earlier experience also includes five years as Arbitrator & Deputy Division Chief of the Jiangsu Provincial Personnel Department (now known as the Jiangsu Provincial Human Resources and Social Security Department), where she dealt with labour and personnel disputes concerning conclusion revision, termination of employment contracts, de facto employment relationship, wages and welfare benefits, and work-related injuries by mediation and arbitration.
Tilleke & Gibbins has bolstered its technology, multimedia and communications practice in Bangkok with the addition of Jeffrey J Blatt. From 1981 through 1996, Blatt was a partner at Irell & Manella and Blakely, Sokoloff, Taylor & Zafman based in Los Angeles, and he has represented a broad spectrum of Silicon Valley clients on transactional matters and issues concerning intellectual property and technology licensing. He also worked with virtually every major studio in Hollywood on intellectual property protection and technology matters. He subsequently moved in-house as group general counsel to Usaha Tegas Sdn Bhd, the Malaysian parent holding company of Astro, Maxis, and MEASAT Satellite, and in 2000 founded X [Ventures], a firm providing consulting and representation to the international satellite, television broadcast, film, multimedia, and high-technology industries. Blatt brings to the firm nearly 30 years of experience in helping telecom companies to define strategic and business objectives, handle contract negotiation, and leverage technology acquisitions and capabilities to create new market opportunities. |
