Colin Ng & Partners LLP has strengthened its Singapore practice with the appointment of Subramanian Pillai as a partner and founding head of the firm’s new Construction, Engineering & Infrastructure Projects practice group, effective 1 March 2010. Pillai has 18 years’ Singapore legal experience under his belt in construction, engineering & infrastructure project work, and has assisted clients with drafting and structuring project documentation, as well as through providing representation in complex construction and engineering disputes. He is also an authority in Commercial Litigation and Arbitration, having advised as an accredited Arbitrator and as counsel in domestic and international arbitrations under the SIA, SIAC and ICC Rules of Arbitration. Pillai has additionally represented clients in corporate and commercial disputes before the High Court and the Court of Appeal in Singapore.
Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP has bolstered its China practice with the appointment of US securities expert Allen Shyu as partner in the firm’s China Corporate Group. Residing in Hong Kong, Shyu’s practice will continue to focus on international securities offerings including debt and equity securities, US and Hong Kong IPOs, private placements and cross-border M&A transactions. Having began his legal career with Taiwanese law firm Lee & Li in its Financing & Capital Markets department, he moved to Baker & McKenzie in Hong Kong in 2000, where he worked in that firm’s US Securities Group covering the Asia Pacific region and became a partner in 2006. With more than one decade of experience in representing issuers from Taiwan, China and Hong Kong in their US and global offerings, Shyu also holds a Masters in Political Science and a JD from the University of Detroit Mercy in Michigan. He is qualified to practice in the US and has been a member of the Illinois and Indiana states bar associations since 1997. Jakarta-based Roosdiono & Partners, the associated office of Malaysian firm Zaid Ibrahim & Co, has appointed securities transactions expert Adrianus Ardianto and corporate and commercial dispute specialist Anderonikus AS Janis as partners in the firm’s Capital Markets and Securities practice group and Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice group, respectively. Ardianto joins the firm from Tumbuan Pane where he began his practice in 1996 after graduating from Padjadjaran University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Law in 1994. He was elevated to partner with that firm in 2002, making his mark in advising onshore and offshore clients in issuances of securities transactions involving equity, debt and hybrid instruments. He is particularly recognised in the area of capital raising, having established over 450 mutual funds in Indonesia. He is fluent in English and Indonesian languages. Janis is a 1995 alumnus of Universitas Indonesia with a Bachelor’s Degree in Law. He has over 15 years of experience in handling corporate and commercial disputes involving foreign and Indonesian clients engaged in a broad range of business areas. He has advised numerous well-known clients, including Asia Mobile Holdings Pte Ltd (Singapore) and Indonesia Communications (Mauritius), in landmark cases and represented Indonesia Communications Pte Ltd (Singapore) in the proceedings before the Commission for the Supervision of Business Competition with respect to the alleged infringement of Indonesian competition law by the Temasek Holdings.
