Berwin Leighton Paisner has appointed Mark Chan as a partner. Previously counsel at O’Melveny & Myers in their Hong Kong and Singapore offices, Chan will be based in the firm’s Hong Kong office and will work closely with the Singapore team. He has extensive experience in Asia-wide transactions for banking clients, as well as for corporate clients. Chan’s experience covers both private and public M&A transactions, including takeovers. He recently advised SK E&S on its defence strategies as one of the largest shareholders in relation to the failed US$2.2 billion takeover attempt of China Gas Holdings Ltd by ENN Energy Holdings Ltd and China Petroleum & Chemical Corp (Sinopec), which would have been the first hostile takeover in Hong Kong.
