DLA Piper announced the arrival of Ghislain de Mareuil, a corporate specialist, who joins as partner. de Mareuil’s practice focuses on cross-border transactions such as M&As, investment structuring and financing, restructuring, asset acquisition, disposal and divestiture. In addition, he provides counsel to clients on corporate social responsibility, commercial law and international dispute resolution issues. Prior to joining DLA Piper, de Mareuil worked in France and China in a well-respected international law firm. He has a substantial business background, having worked as a management consultant with an international business consultancy and also as a non-governmental organisation deputy coordinator. de Mareuil has worked in Beijing, Shanghai, Japan and Cambodia.

Nick Seddon is set to join the Hong Kong office of Heller Ehrman as partner. Previously, Seddon was DLA Piper’s Managing Director for Asia, a role he assumed in 2004. Under his leadership, DLA Piper’s practice in the region expanded 300 percent and grew from four to six offices. Seddon qualified as a solicitor in the U.K. at Needham & James, where he became a partner at age 27 and later head of the Corporate Group. Nick’s corporate practice focused on entrepreneurial growth businesses, including technology companies. He also represented many of the U.K.’s top private equity firms on deals ranging from development capital investments in wholesalers to buyouts of cutting-edge software developers.

Vanessa Abernethy has joined the corporate department of the Simmons & Simmons Dubai office. Vanessa has worked in the region for the last 3 years and joins from the office of Clyde & Co. She specialises in securities law, IPOs and financial services and regulatory matters.
