Baker & McKenzie has announced that real estate lawyer Alexander Jampel has joined as partner its Tokyo Banking & Finance practice, in a move the firm hopes will boost development of its real estate practice in Japan. Born and raised in Tokyo and a native Japanese speaker, Jampel has moved across from a partnership role with Paul, Hastings, Janofsky & Walker LLP. Jampel has extensive experience in the areas of real estate acquisitions, dispositions, finance, development and joint ventures, and has represented investors in the acquisition of commercial real estate portfolios, developers in commercial real estate projects, and lenders providing non-recourse financing for the commercial real estate and real estate secured loan portfolios. Having undertaken a BA at the University of California and a JD at Loyola Law School, Jampel is admitted to practice in California and Hawaii, and is also a registered foreign lawyer in Japan (gaikokuho jimu bengoshi) and a member of the Daiichi Tokyo Bar Association.
