DLA Piper has appointed Stephen Nelson as a partner in its Asia tax team. He joined the firm from a major mainland China law firm where he was head of tax and co-head of the corporate group. As a tax practitioner, Nelson has more than 25 years’ experience in China practice covering foreign investments, M&As and other broad corporate matters. Nelson’s practice focused on advising multi-national clients on the tax-effective establishment and restructuring of operations in China. He specialises in tax planning from both PRC and home country tax perspectives. He also has significant experience in foreign investment and M&A in China, with an industry focus in the TMT sector.

Norton Rose Hong Kong has appointed Ji Liu as a partner in its Hong Kong US securities law team. He will join from Shearman & Sterling, California, USA where he is a senior associate. Liu is a US securities law specialist and has strong experience in both equity and debt offerings. He has advised on domestic and cross-border capital market transactions, such as equity, debts and rights offerings in a wide range of industries, M&As, spin-off, joint venture, securitisation, bank finance and venture capital financing. He has also advised on securities matters, corporate governance and other general corporate issues.
