Iain Sedgley was born near Manchester in the UK. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in Philosophy from Bedford College, University of London and obtained a post-graduate Diploma in Law from City University, London before he was admitted as a member of the Inner Temple and called to the English Bar. In 1986, he settled in Malaysia, and was subsequently admitted and enrolled as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya.
From 1988, Iain practiced as a legal assistant with Skrine & Co, before leaving to join Lee Hishammuddin as a partner in 1993. He departed from Lee Hishammuddin Allen & Gledhill, where he headed the corporate department, to establish Sedgley & Co in 2010. With nearly 30-years of
experience as a solicitor, Iain has earned a reputation as an astute, firm and assiduous negotiator. The Legal 500, Chambers & Partners, Asia Law Profiles, IFLR1000, and other rankers have recognized him as a leading individual in his areas of practice.
Iain has extensive experience in corporate and commercial transactions and structures, and at Sedgley & Co, Iain’s main areas of practice are mergers & acquisitions, large-scale infrastructure and property projects and general corporate and commercial contracts.
Iain Sedgley has been named an In-House Community – Commended External Counsel of the Year for 2017.
