Singapore

On Monday January 5, the Supreme Court of Singapore added the Singapore International Commercial Court (SICC) to compliment the Singapore International Arbitration Centre, started in 1991, and the Singapore International Mediation Centre, set up in November of last year.

The SICC will hear disputes over global business deals and is Singapore’s latest effort to become Asia’s dispute resolution hub and compete with the likes of Hong Kong and Malaysia.

The appointed international judges include Dyson Heydon, former judge of the High Court of Australia; Dr Irmgard Griss, former president of the Austrian Supreme Court; and Justice Dominique T. Hascher, judge of the Supreme Judicial Court of France. Some of the court’s judges will still serve in their own jurisdictions.
